AI People: Long-Term Memory

We’re excited to share the latest improvement to our game, AI People.

Have you ever noticed NPCs forgetting what they were doing or the details of your recent conversations? This limitation stemmed from memory constraints in LLMs.

But not anymore! We’ve supercharged NPC memory—think of it as giving them a big dose of ginkgo biloba.

Introducing Long-Term Memory (LTM)

Our LTM system transforms NPCs into more realistic, dynamic, and engaging characters by incorporating multiple types of memory—episodic, procedural, emotional, and relational. This allows NPCs to exhibit richer, more nuanced behaviors.

From now on, NPCs will remember from your interactions within a scenario. Whether it’s a conversation, a command, or a personal detail you share, they’ll retain it, creating a more immersive and personalized experience. While this memory currently works only within the playthrough of the scenario, we’re planning future updates to enable memory persistence.

This enhancement unlocks a new level of immersion: NPCs can recall your favorite coffee, your pet’s name, or where you left the tool they need. It’s an exciting step forward in AI-driven interactions.

NeurIPS 2024

Currently, the Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) is taking place in Vancouver, Canada (https://neurips.cc/). Tomorrow, members of the GoodAI team will presents their paper   Beyond Prompts: Dynamic Conversational Benchmarking of Large Language Models. The insights from this research played a key role in implementing LTM in AI People.

Bug Fixes and Changes

In addition to new features, we’re always working to improve the game by addressing bugs reported by players or discovered by our team. In this update, we’ve adjusted the chat window to revert to its standard size after a longer message is sent, ensuring a smoother user experience.
